DEFENCE CURRENT AFFAIRS (september)


1. INDIA -AUSTRALIA  did the 4th  AUSINDEX naval exercise in September 2021. This biannual naval exercise started in 2015.

  • It was conducted in the North Australian Exercise Area.
  • INS Shivalik and INS Kadmatt participated in this exercise which is the Guided Missile Stealth Frigate and Anti-Submarine Corvette respectively.
  • in 2019 this exercise was conducted in the Bay Of Bengal.

2. India’s DRDO has developed the technology of the Floating Test Range(FTR).

  • This FTR will be named INS Anvesh.
  • Its displacement will be 9000tons.
  • It is being manufactured by Cochin Shipyard Ltd.

3. The National Intelligence Grid or NATGRID was allotted funding by the central govt.

  • The National Intelligence Grid or NATGRID is the integrated intelligence master database structure for counter-terrorism purposes connecting databases of various core security agencies under the Government of India collecting comprehensive patterns procured from 21 different organizations that can be readily accessed by security agencies round the clock.
  • NATGRID came into existence after the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
  • it was founded in 2009.
  • Ashish Gupta is the current CEO.

4. Indian army participated in ZAPAD 2021 military exercise in Russia.

5. Indian army participated in the 6th SCO military exercise named peaceful mission. India, China and Pakistan all three Countries participated in it.

6. IAF collaborated with IIT Kanpur for academic collaboration.

7. USA has collaborated with INDIA on emerging fuels in the US-IND strategic clean energy partnership.

8. Chinese troops came to Barahoti and damaged a small Indian bridge. In 1954 Chinese troops also intruded in this area. Barahoti is in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.

9. Government of India dissolves 41 Ordinance factory boards into 7 new defence PSUs.

  • it is one of the oldest organisations in India, which is run by the GOI.
  • The First OFB was set up in West Bengal in 1712.
  • HQ of OFB is in Kolkata(WB).
  • OFB was the 37 largest equipment manufacturer in the world,2nd in Asia.
  • This move will tackle the quality and profit issues of OFB.
  • This move is the corporatisation of OFBs into PSUs.

10. Akash Prime Missile successfully test-fired in September 2021 from Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, Odisha.

  • It is the first test of the Akash prime missile.
  • It is an improved version of the Akash missile.

11. New Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari took charge from 30th Sept 2021.

  • PVSM, AVSM, VM,
  • He was closely associated with the rafale programme.
  • previously he was the deputy chief of the air staff
  • Aircraft Flown: MiG-21, MiG-23 MF, MiG 29, Su-30 MKI

Ordinance factory boards dissolved into 7 new PSUs.

  The government of India dissolves 41 Ordnance factory boards(OFB) into 7 new defence PSUs. OFB is one of the oldest organisations in India, which is run by the GOI. The First OFB was set up in West Bengal in 1712. HQ of OFB is in Kolkata(WB). OFB was the 37 largest equipment manufacturer in the world,2nd in Asia. 7 new PSU(public sector undertaking) are- 1. Munitions India ltd. 2. Armoured vehicles Nigam lid. 3. Advance Weapons and Equipments India lid. 4. Troop comforts limited, 6. yatra India limited, 7. Gliders India limited. The existing employee will work under new PSUs and will get equal or better working conditions and salaries. 3 experts committees suggested this move in 2000,2005 and 2015. 4th committee led by Lt. Gen. D. B. Shekatkar recommended this move in 2021.  This move will tackle the quality and profit issues of OFB.   This move is the corporatisation of OFBs into PSUs.
