Malabar Exercise phase (II)-

Phase (II) of the Malabar exercise took place in the Bay of
Bengal in 
October.

  • India, the USA, Japan and Australia participate in Malabar exercises.

  • INS Ranvijay (D55) INS Satpura(F48)participated on Indian behalf.

  • US aircraft carrier USS Carl Vision, USS Lake companion, USS Stockdale 

  • Japanese helicopter carrier JS Kaga, JS Marasame.

  • Australian HMAS Sirus, HMAS Ballarat also participated.

  • Phase I of this exercise was conducted in the Philippine Sea in August.

Exercise Mitra Shakti-

  • 8th edition of 14 days ex Mitra Shakti was launched on 4th Oct 2020 with Srilankan army and Indian army.
  • The exercise will be held in the Ampara district.

Exercise Yudh Abhyas

  • IND -USA joint military exercise Ex: Yudh Abhyas 2021 took place at a joint base in Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, USA.
  • It was the 17th edition of Ex. Yudh Abhyas.
  • Yudh Abhyas is the largest running joint military and defence cooperation exercise between the two countries.

87th anniversary of Indian Air Force.

  • On 8th Oct IAF celebrated its 89 anniversary.
  • The motto of IAF- "Touch the Sky with Glory".
  • This motto is taken from the 11th chapter of Shrimadbhagwat Geeta.
  • IAF was founded in 1932

Agni 5 test-fired.

On 28 Oct, India teste-fired  Agni 5 missile with very high accuracy in response to the Chinese DF-17 hypersonic missile with was tested a few days before. 
  • Agni 5 is a surface-to-surface ballistic missile with a range of 5000km.
  • The first test of Agni 5 was conducted in 2012.
  • Agni 5 uses 3 stages solid-fueled engine.
  • Agni 5 can hit multiple targets simultaneously.
  • It is developed by DRDO. 

JIMEX exercise-

5th edition of IND- JAPAN maritime bilateral exercise JIMEX was conducted in the Arabian Sea.

  • INS Kochi (destroyer) and INS Teg (frigate) 

INFANTRY DAY-

27 Oct is observed as infantry day in the remembrance of the first military event of independent India.

  • On this day in 1947 Indian army repelled the first attack on Indian soil in the Kashmir valley.

1. INDIA -AUSTRALIA  did the 4th  AUSINDEX naval exercise in September 2021. This biannual naval exercise started in 2015. It was conducted in the North Australian Exercise Area. Ordinance factory boards dissolved into 7 new PSUs.

  The government of India dissolves 41 Ordnance factory boards(OFB) into 7 new defence PSUs. OFB is one of the oldest organisations in India, which is run by the GOI. The First OFB was set up in West Bengal in 1712. HQ of OFB is in Kolkata(WB). OFB was the 37 largest equipment manufacturer in the world,2nd in Asia. 7 new PSU(public sector undertaking) are- 1. Munitions India ltd. 2. Armoured vehicles Nigam lid. 3. Advance Weapons and Equipments India lid. 4. Troop comforts limited, 6. yatra India limited, 7. Gliders India limited. The existing employee will work under new PSUs and will get equal or better working conditions and salaries. 3 experts committees suggested this move in 2000,2005 and 2015. 4th committee led by Lt. Gen. D. B. Shekatkar recommended this move in 2021.  This move will tackle the quality and profit issues of OFB.   This move is the corporatisation of OFBs into PSUs.
